Redken All Soft Shampoo

Ulta's page says All Soft "cleanses while creating soft, silky hair" and features "Redken's Moisture Complex featuring Argan Oil". Its conditioning claim ("15x more conditioning") applies when it's used with the All Soft Conditioner and Argan-6 Oil. The ingredient list starts with sodium laureth sulfate and dimethicone, and argan oil (argania spinosa kernel oil) appears near the end.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo

Ulta describes Hydrate as a "sulfate free, rich formula" for normal to thick, dry, color-treated hair, "100% vegan", with jojoba, green tea and sage as key ingredients. It's a concentrated formula (Ulta's page says "75+ shampoos in a single bottle", and the directions say to use a dime-sized amount).

Key differences

  • Sulfates. All Soft uses SLES. Hydrate is sulfate-free.
  • Color-treated hair. Pureology positions Hydrate specifically for color-treated hair. All Soft is positioned for dry, brittle hair.
  • Colorants. All Soft's list includes colorants (Orange 4, Red 33).

Verdict: which should you choose?

Choose Pureology Hydrate if your hair is color-treated or you want a sulfate-free, vegan formula. Choose Redken All Soft if you're happy with a sulfate shampoo and want to use the full All Soft system with its conditioner and argan oil. See also Redken All Soft vs Extreme.
